The goal of JSH’s Safety/Security Department is to provide a safe and secure environment for all patients, visitors and staff. Upon arriving to your room you will be asked to formulate a code word which will uniquely identify you. The code word will help us secure your identity and limit visitors at your request. If you have any safety concerns, please use the nurse call button to notify staff.
Please do not leave the nursing unit without notifying the nurse in charge as to where you are going and when you will return.
Hospital personnel must wear a picture ID badge at all times. If someone without a badge presents themselves as a hospital employee, please notify your nurse, physician or security immediately. Security can be reached at ext. 1157.
The third floor is dedicated to maternity services. We have many safeguards in place to ensure the safety and security of our youngest patients—newborn children. The safeguards will be explained to you upon arrival to the third floor. Access to this area is limited to one location: the elevator on the second floor in the ICU/PCU waiting area. Signage directing you to the elevator and third floor is in place at the 18th Street and green umbrella by the Emergency Department.
Drills are scheduled and conducted routinely by hospital personnel to ensure patient safety and hospital preparedness in the event of a real emergency. If alarms sound during drills, please remain in your room until the drill is over. In the event of a real emergency, remain calm and in your room until nursing staff gives you instructions.
