General Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Timothy Chang, has served the Western Kentucky region since 2014. His unique background and training offer an unusually broad range of experience to treat patients for joint pain, joint replacement, arthritis, bone fracture, sport injuries, as well as skeletal, muscular, ligament, cartilage, and tendon injuries.
As a Medical Officer, Orthopaedic Surgeon, and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery in the United States Army, Dr. Chang developed a particular interest in treating traumatic orthopaedic injuries. During his 20+ years of military service, he treated some of the most severe traumatic injuries sustained by our country’s military personnel. In 2002, Dr. Chang also volunteered for a humanitarian mission to Honduras where he provided orthopedic care to local residents with congenital deformities, burns, and traumatic injuries.
Dr. Chang also holds a PhD in Health Economics, a credential that makes him especially mindful of a patient’s financial burden for medical care. He is therefore deliberate in his current practice to balance his patients’ best medical options for high quality outcomes with the lowest patient cost burden.
Dr. Chang attended the University of Hawaii, where he received a Master of Arts degree in Economics in 1986, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health Economics in 1991. Dr. Chang earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the same university’s John A. Burns School of Medicine in 1994. Upon graduation from medical school, he served as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas, for several years before completing his orthopaedic residency in 2003 at the Brooke Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas. Throughout his studies, Dr. Chang has researched, authored, and presented on a number medical and health economic topics for lay and professional audiences alike.
From 2003 to 2014, Dr. Chang was assigned to Fort Campbell, KY, where he practiced general orthopaedic surgery as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon, Clinic Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery. Prior to his military retirement in September 2014, he performed more than 3,000 surgical procedures for service men and women and their families. Dr. Chang joined Jennie Stuart Health as a full-time Orthopaedic Surgeon, serving patient populations in Hopkinsville and the surrounding communities.
